This tutorial aims to guide those with a non IT related background through the complicated maze of web design and creating a new web site, explaining in plain English many of the confusing terms used within the web design and web hosting industry. We also explain the various 'nuts & bolts' that make up a fully functional commercial or business web site.
Topics covered in this guide include; Finding and registering a Domain name, web site hosting, web site design & development, and finally we take a look at web site promotion techniques such as Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), plus other options for advertising your web site.
This tutorial is divided into three main parts:
Part 1 - Location:
This section starts with a look at finding a location on the Internet to store the many files that make up your web site so that they are available to users surfing the web, usually referred to as Web Hosting. We also look at obtaining a meaningful name for your web site to allow surfers to find you easily, E.g. yourbusinessname.com. These are called Domain Names. We also take a look at Electronic Mail (E-mail).
Part 2 - Creation:
This section discusses the creation of the actual web pages and resources (E.g. Images, Video etc.) that make up a fully functional web site. Includes information on Web Design & Development, additional content for your web site, plus tips and tricks for building a better web site.
Part 3 - Promotion:
Once you have your web site up and running, how will users surfing the web find your web site? This section discusses various aspects of web site promotion including advertising and getting your site found in search engines.
